I didn't get a manual w/ my quad so need to ask a question. To check the level of oil in the rear diff. I guess you would unscrew the oil check bolt on the lower left and if oil comes or seaps out then it is the right level?? I unscrewed it and none came out but there was some oil on the bolt. Any help appreciated...

hypoid gear oil SAE #80 at draining 2.5 US oz at disassembly 3.4 U
S oz. level vehicle remove oil check bolt and check that the oil flows out of the check bolt hole. Check for leaks if there is no oil flow. Remove the final gear case oil cap and pour the oil slowly through the filler hole until the oil starts to flow out of the check bolt hole. install the check bolt with a new sealing washer and tighten to 9 lbf*ft. Coat a new O-ring with grease and install it into final gear case oil cap groove. Install the oil cap and tighten to 9lbf*ft. whew.

Make sure the oil level reaches the oil level check hole. I changed mine after about a year. One surprise for me though was when I took the drain plug out only the top portion came off and left the threaded part in. I was able to get the bottom half out pretty easy with a small screwdriver.
Thank goodness one of the local dealers had one of the drain plugs in stock. I guess when it was put in at the factory it was overtightened.

Thanks for the prompt replies. I bought this 01 250 ex for $1350.00 and it is in really good condition. The plastic isn't great but has new back tires. I think some kid had it and dogged it the 6-8 months he had it. I changed the oil and new plug, runs like a top. I'll prolly put the same hypoid gear oil in it that I use on my Yamaha, should be ok. There was some oil in there but must be low as it does not look damaged at all. Thanks for the well written instructions. Who needs a manual when you guys on this forum are so helpful. Appreciate it...

JHAM,
As much as I enjoy my Recon I wouldn't mind having another one or a 250EX at that price.
