I'm in the market for a used 400ex, probably a 99 or 00, just becasue the prices are to high for the newer ones. My question is this, are there any special tell tell signs that a quad has been beaten. What are some key areas I should look at. Do 400ex's have certain weak areas I should pay more attention to. Also, what price range would a stock 99-00 400ex be.

Thanks for the help.

Well, for a used one, on average they are going for around 3800 here. For one like mine, in total showroom, 4000-4200 should be about the line. In the KBB they have them at $4450 but it seems the market has weakened a little for it, probably desperate folks will do it for a lot less.
The 99 is no different than the new ones, dont worry about the years. No real weak things to look for.

the only weakspot on the 400ex that i know of is the rear subframe, and this is only on machines that have been bottomed out alot.
