D1 & D2 have around the same top speed of 55mph.I use D2 for trail cruising when the terrian is fairly flat, sometimes in D2 it doesnt seem to backshift quick enough,so for aggressive trail riding I use D1.For pulling, mud bogging or slow technical riding use low.ESP comes in handy when I want to hold a certain RPM at speed, like when Im seeding, spraying or mowing. This tranny is so smooth and versatile its amazing, you will love it.

Exactly right, and good advice! Use Low whenever climbing (or descending) a steep hill, pulling a trailer with a heavy load, or any other situation where power is more important that speed. But I wouldn't recommend running in Low all day long. D1 works just fine in most all-around riding.

D1 keeps the engine in a higher rpm range to give the ATV a quicker throttle response. It keeps the engine closer to the peak HP band. D2 keeps the engine closer to the max torque band of the engine. It is actually used more for pulling. In a recent ATV article, a Rubicon actually pulled a slead further in D2 than D1, driving a Rubicon I would not think that but torque pulls and HP makes you go fast. I don't think either mode down shifts soon enough when riding agressivly in mud, snow, or climbing steep hills. Use what you feel most comfortable with.
