I have a 99 bought it new love riding in the trails. IT has plenty of power in the tight trails in washington. Lacks power in the dunes.
Jumps better than anyother quad I have ridden

I just bought an '02 400ex a little bit ago. I have owned and ridden alot of 3 and 4 wheelers over the years, and this is my favorite one yet. It jumps great, handles the trails really well, and has plenty of power for the dunes. It's not going to win any drag races with banshees or raptors, but if having fun is what you're after, it's a great choice. I know alot of people that swear by them, and you can't beat Honda reliability. I just finished breaking mine in, and after adjusting the valves it feels like a whole new bike again. I'm going to put a K&N filter on, motoforce airbox lid, and dynojet jet kit here in the next couple weeks. I'm sure that will give me more get-up-and-go, but for the riding I do (not racing or motocross) it's a great bike.

slome, Have you had any problems with it? Does it have the power to carry the front end of the ground, Like first and second? If your 400 ex is stock, do you think it needs more power on the big or not? I think the 400 ex looks good but before I drop $5,900 for it, I would like to find out more from the people who have one.

Chad400ex, Thanx for take'in time for this. I am 27 yrs. old use to ride dirt bikes from when I was 6 to 18 yrs. old. Now, I feel like I must go out and buy a quad. I would like to get back in riding again to feel that freedom of ripping along trails.

Hey, the 400ex has plenty of power to pick the front end off of the ground. I was just riding mine around my field about an hour ago, and I can ride a wheelie really good in 1st 2nd and 3rd. If I hit the throttle hard in 4th, I can ride one with the front wheels about a foot off the ground for quite a distance. 3rd gear is the best for picking the front end up though. If I can ride with the front end up for 50 or 60 yards, anyone can. I am also 27, 5ft 11in, and 210 lbs. This bike is a perfect fit for me.

chad400ex, I am not kidding. I am 6'5" tall at 230 pounds, Do you think the bike might be to small cc or framed for my height/weight?

Well...I'm sure it can handle your weight allright, but you should go sit on one at a dealer and see how it feels. It may feel a bit "cramped" for you. Just go to a honda and a yamaha dealership, and try them on for size. If one bike feels like it fits you better after a test ride, go for it. The Honda just might fit you perfectly. It's like buying a pair of shoes. You gotta make sure that they fit before you take them home. I know it doesn't have the best power, but the warrior fits taller riders pretty good, and I think that the raptor would too. It has a higher seat height than the Honda. The DS 650 would be a great fit. It's a really big bike, but it costs a little more. I'd just go take a test ride, and then make your decision.

I have a 2000 400EX that is jetted, piped, and has K&N it will pull a wheelie out of 5th but i am only 145 pounds too. But for me the quad is excellent cant ask for anything better. It will do nice smokey burnouts too. I am poor to the tire manufacturers.

The 400EX is simply the best handling machine you can buy. If I recall it does have more power then the warrior. I don't own one yet but will soon or wait for the zuk. I've ridden a 400EX before though.
And a raptor, but IN MY OPINION if u want to keep the quad a while buy the 400EX. It's nearly bulletproof. And with some really good mods,it
could beat a STOCK raptor. Don't expect it to beat a cannondale or DS in speed cuz it wont. But,it will beat the DS on the trails cuz the DS is so damn big. And it will beat the raptor and Banshee,IF it's tight trails not just a fireroad. I dont know about it beating a cannondale on the trails never rode one of those, but I here they are fast as hell!!!!!! Hope this helps some.

PS- Do you have any friends that own 400EX's?
