400ex broken swingarm
#2
Lots of air and hard landings. We have broken one. I rode that bike some and a friend owns it, he weighs about 210~225.
Things that went before the swingarm:
Upper control arm
Rear subframe bolts
Several square wheels
Handlebars
Front shock
Headlight Mountings
Bent axle
Tie rods
Carb separating from the airbox several times
and lots of other stuff I am forgetting.....
Any swingarm that takes the kind of abuse that this one did will fail eventually. I have personally broken a steel swingarm on my 350X and more recently my 250R.
Have you seen my pics? http://home.earthlink.net/~gellett/sahara.htm
Mine took that pounding for 2 days solid (spent several hours both days jumping like that), and continues to take lots of jumping, I currently weigh about 175.

Thanx for the info. Every Mag out there warns about the risk of a broken swingarm & I wasn't sure what kind of abuse was given. Maybe next year I'll need a swingarm but for now I will keep my airtime down to about 30feet.
