Sometimes when I ride my 400ex through creeks and stuff later on my front suspension starts sqeaking real bad when you ride it and bounce over stuff. Can somebody give me some tips on what to do to quieten (sp?) it down some?? Its really getting on my nerves!! It has done it before a few times, but I just rode it and rode it and it finally quit, now it has started back. I sprayed WD40 around everything, but it still squeaks. Any suggestions?? Thanks!

Mine was doing the samething but only on the left side. What i did was take the shock off put alittle grease on the bolt that holds the shock on tightin the nut and it went away. Was riding today and had no problem ever after some jump. It worked for me.

The WD-40 doesn't last long because when WD-40 meets a rubber part that has friction against a metal part, it will actually dry and ball up making the squeak worse.

The fix is to use an aerosol can of White Lithium Grease. It is available from your Honda dealer or an auto parts house.

If the squeak is coming from the A-arms, you might have to loosen the bolts enough to slide it out slightly to get the grease where it needs to be. Just spray it on the bolts and slide the bolts back and forth a few times. While you have the lithium grease out, spray the tie rod ends as well.

If the squeak is in the ball joints, auto parts houses have a needle to go on the end of a grease gun so that you can poke the needle into the ball joint boot and shoot it full of grease. We do this on all ATVs as part of our recommended service when an ATV comes in for a service. It will double the lifetime of your ball joints.

A word of advice man, Honda and many magazines have admitted that one of the first things to buy for your bike is SHOCKWEARS do to the fact that they have weak outer seals, which would be maybe one of your problems man.......

Wow, Thanks Knowsalot. I have an injector up on the wall that was used for a Drive shaft on a 1967 Buick Riviera. I never a had a clue. I am ashamed I didn't think of it. I will now give my Honda's the shot that is needed for their Health.
I just hope with about 350 hours on the Recon and the same amount of time on the 4x4 that they are worth saving.

Lithium or silicone wd-40 will break down the rubber.

yeah go ahead and poke a hole in your sealed boots on your tie rods and ball joints, the water and dirt really do lube the joints real well. if your noise is coming from a contact point, ie. shock bolt whatever i perfer to use the wheel bearing grease the is used for boats. its water resistant, won't ruin your rubber seals either. only downfall is that it will collect dirt and other debris, but so will anything that you put on it. but i would rather spend a few hours every few months and relube everything than hear that damn SQUEAK!!!
