i have 2 440 EX's , change the rev limiter to 10,300 (White Bros has them available), and with 22" on the rear the top end will give you a rush , i haven't raced a banshee and haven't clocked the speed but this combo hauls.....

hey nick, everybody so far has said alot of intelligent things and it realy is a toss up on the quad that you should buy, i dont own either of them, and i am not going to talk either up, but i know that the banshee is the fastest, and i know that it is also a 2-cyl-2stroke, which in the long run MIGHT get you into trouble, i think most ppl know that 2 storkes arent quite reliable as 4 strokes, but yamaha makes a good quad when it comes to the banshee, now the 400EX, the machine is slower, yes, but it also has great handling, suspension, and a great motor underneath your a$$, and dont listen to Sandman, guys that come in and start ripping on 400EX need to relize that there banshee is getting pushed aside, it is old technology. but still a good ride. Nick buy a honda, in the long run i think you will be happier! RideRed!

trx430ex, what do you register your mph with? we use a gps, it is very accurate ,it works with 3 satilites in space and calibrates your speed . i failed to tell you that i weigh 225 lbs, i myself dont think that 71 i registered was fast i was looking for more, but then we gps my boss at work , our upgrades are exact, exept his jetting it was two sizes smaller than mine, he got 68 on his stock gearing, he is a 170 lbs man, so all in all i didn't think that was to bad. that 36 tooth rear sidewinder didn't even dent the tourqe of my ex , believe it or not.

The banshee is faster but the 400EX is a better machine with the electric start and infamous Honda reliability. I traded in my 1996 banshee to get a 400EX and had no disapointments except my arms are still in ther sockets but who needs that anyway?

Both out of the crate, the Banshee is faster all day long. Now on a race track, the 400 ex is superior, and is set up much better for this type of riding than the banshee. On the dunes, only the 650 can top the venerable old 2cyliner Yamaha. You could add modifications and make the 400 faster probably, but then you can also modify the banshee to really scream! On this one, its always personal preference. Some like the straight line power of the 2 stroke banshee while others like the 4 stroke reliability and excellent power and handling combination of the 400ex. I personally like the rugged climbing ability of big bore 4x4's myself.

400EX IS BY FAR A BETTER ALL AROUND BIKE THAN THE BANSHEE. THE BANSHEE MIGHT HAVE A BETTER TOP SPEED BUT THE 400EX WILL BEAT IT ON A MX TRACK AND THRU THE WOODS,ALSO A BETTER JUMPER AND DIRTWHEELS NAMED IT THE WHEELIE KING. LONG LIVE HONDA!!!

Just a thought... What would your response be if you owned a banshee or even a 250r for that matter?

I just got back from Butercup, (This is a sand dune range just outide of Yuma,AZ)and in the sand the Banshee is the king. Nothing comes close to a tricked out Banshee for racing up Competition Hill. I have a 1998 Banshee with Toomey T-5's and it is pretty quick. I raced a couple of guys on modded TRX 400's and they put up a pretty good race until about half way up the hill when we were pretty even, then I blew them away. A friend of mine took his new 400 on the trip and I rode it. Power is way down compared to my Banshee but the ergos, handling and the suspension on the 400 are VERY IMPRESSIVE! I was very impressed with everything on the 400 except for the power and lack of a back-up kick starter. However, if Honda was to put that new XR 650 motor in the 400 chasis I would be the first in line to buy one! Please Honda listen to us riders

I own a 400ex and on sunday myself and a few friends went to the local mx track. There were 2 400ex's and 5 Banshee's.Out of 4, 4 lap races it was honda 1 and 2 every time. It's funny how the banshee's superior speed didn,t help it on the track.Top speed's not everything. oz_400ex
