Yes the 85 and 86 ATC are very similar but the 86 has more parts that will work with the TRX. The 85 carrier, axle, and carb are some of the parts.

1) I seem to remeber reading somewhere that the 85-86 ATC rear end (swingarm back, including shock) can be used in a trx frame. Is this right?
2) Will the intake/carb boot/airbox off of an ATC work in the TRX frame?
3) If I use the 85-86 motor, I have to use the 86 frame because of the rear engine mount, correct?

I know I'll think of more before I even start this, but that's all I can think of off hand....

1. '86 will fit and I think the '85 is a tad different as far as the carrier goes.
2. the intake will fit but the rest will not. Try an ESR air box eliminator kit. It's a tube from the back of the carb connected to a filter. No more air box.
3. 85-89 motors will fit all frames. The later year TRX's bolt in with less bolts but fits fine.

Check out Project SandTrax in the Dune Zone for more info.

Thanks for the help, everybody. I'm doing this as a project over time, and so i'll be able to own a 250r before they're all gone. It's gonna take a while, and I'm sure I'll have more questions along the way, but I plan to keep you all updated with pics.
