Turbo Kit on 400EX??

I was reading the new dirwheels today and seen the turbo kit that they had for the 400EX and Raptor and i was wondering, what is the consequences or downfalls of one of these, can you ride on long ride trips with these without them overheating............I know we have 2 diesel trucks that have turbos on them and if you get the pyrometer up to so high they will just melt the turbo and the block?...........thanx for any info you can give me on these turbos.

From my understanding, yes, you can install and ride. It will instantly DOUBLE your horsepower. It will also cost you over $4000!

Is it worth it?

These turbos will act like any other. I know on diesel trucks, we had to watch the pyrometer so we wouldn't overheat them. Same here, but like the trucks that have inter-coolers, they don't get quite so hot.

The bad part of these turbos is the debris from your transmission and clutch. This kind of debris is not good for a turbo. Also I do not think there is enough oil cooling for a turbo on these machines.

I think this kit will make a great duner/drag project but I don't think it would be reliable for everyday use due to the added stress on the crank and transmission. I think I read in the article that they where using a stock piston and crank, correct me if I'm wrong.

I think that when you start messing with these "unproven" motor hop ups you run into trouble. Don't mess with Honda reliability. If you want pure speed buy a Raptor,DS650, or Cannondale.

I believe the reason for the stock piston is usually turbos work with lower compression pistons. I believe I read this on a car web site. I will try to find this.

I would wait till something less exspensive and better comes out.

You cannot run high compression with a turbo, the motor will produce way too much heat. The turbo forces more air/fuel mixture into the motor, which is kind of like increasing the compression ratio.
