It comes with an owners manual. Yes it comes oiled up. It should already be jetted to your altitude and weather. Yes lube the chain after every ride. It could probably go longer but I like to lube often. To break it in you first start by riding around using 1/2 throttle, for about 3 or 4 times in between periods remember to let the engine cool. Then after that do the same thing except using 3/4 throttle. Then do it again using full throttle. Then after the engines cooled, you hop on the quad go to the dunes or a wide open area and drive the **** out of it. Wide open all the way there.""WHAT should I do first? Break it in. And the very last thing you do is after its done being broken in. Clean the filter and change the oil. Then read your quad a bed time story, tuck it in,kiss it good night, and go to bed knowing you have broken in your quad correctly.

After you break it in...be sure to get the valves adjusted (or do it yourself). My quad seemed to gain a bit of power after it was all done being broken in. I've done the mods listed below since then, and all I want to do is ride my 400EX. It's a great bike. I've never had one second thought about it.

If you dont mind spending about 1500 dollas more you could get a cannibal you know. The 400EX is a very nice quad and a beauty........but the cannibal is the beast! CANNONDALE RULEZ
