The guy that bought into LRD has a background making aluminum motorcycle frames, so he is not new to the industry. However a motorcycle frame is a whole different animal than an ATV frame.

The aluminum frames are heat treated and come anodized , so if there would be any need for welding , it would not be as straight forward as welding a Cannondale frame.

I believe the advertised weight savings is 9 lbs.

It will probably be a very good frame , but only time will tell. You got to believe that they are very serious about this project to spend all of this time and money doing R&D on a 250R frame when most all other aftermarket companies (Arens, Houser, Roll design) are doing all of there R&D on the YZF and CRF frames. I think it was a wise choice to put Bill Ballance on one of these bikes and I hope they get 1 or 2 of them into the GNC series as well.

This is also why it has taken Honda so many years to refine their design. Aluminum is a different beast, and it takes awhile to get it figured out.

I only wonder if LRD did backyard engineering (like Laeger) or actual honest-to-God design work.
it’s made from 6061 T6 solution heat treated and artificially aged to ensure maximum Durability

it’s a great idea people don’t think has anyone seen the 400ex sub frame they are so small hence tubing diameter and also the the steel frame has a stupid non existent rear bumper where the LRD ALLOWA YOU TO ADD A COOL GRAB BAR there is also metal sleeves in most of the bolt whole due to the fact that two different tallies will corrode oxidize etc
