Ok I'm about to buy a 1986 125cc ATV (Honda). I'm buying it from a friend of mine and he called me this morning and is having a problem with the brakes.

He replaces the rear shoes (drum brakes) and he said everything is moving properly it's just not grabbing.

He said he's been trying to adjust it but can't get them to grab. So I'm here to ask you for your help.

How do you adjust these to get them to grab. What I mean by grab is touch the drum so it stops.

Please be specific because I don't know the first thing about brakes but his guy is a mechanic in the military and he's stumped.

I really don't want to take it in a be charged an arm and a leg.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

Simply look to see how they move in and out before replacing the drum. You should be able to judge where the drum surface rests in relation to the shoe surface and tell if they are close enough to contact each other.
