I was wondering how to find this ?? Actually I know how, I am just confused on which mark to use.. There seems to be two marks.. A sideward T and a right sideup mix of a T & F. Does this sound correct.. I am not sure which one comes first though.. Also.. I was told that a 4 stroke actually has 2 so-called TDC. Since the flywheel rotates twice for every Cam rotation.. Is this a shot in the dark to get it correct the first time ?? Or is there something else I can check ??
Thanks for the help !!!

It is possible to have the TDC mark lined up and the piston be at the bottom of it's stroke.

Line up TDC and see if the piston is at the top. If it isn't, rotate the crank one more time until you get to TDC again. This time, the piston should be at the top.

I don't think I can see the piston !! Maybe I should have found TDC before installing the valve portion of the engine. Did i go 1 step to far ?? Is there a way to check without removing the valves.. I only have the rockers to install, then I am done..
Thanks for the help !!!

It is not possible for the TDC mark to be lined up and the piston be on the bottom!!!! If the 'T' mark is aligned the piston is up, it may be up on the exhaust stroke though. If you have'nt put the rocker cover on yet, and the cam is aligned, and the lobes on the cam point down toward the piston you are correctly on the tdc of the compression stroke. If you haven't put the chain on yet (couldn't tell how far you had it torn down) just line the tdc mark up then align your cam dots with the lobes downward again and you are set. Put your tensioner on and roll the engine a couple of times and recheck all of the marks. Reset it to TDC of the compression stroke, put your head cover on and set your valve clearances. The mark should also be the sideward T , the F mark is a Full ignition advance mark.

Hope this helps, Bill

4WHLr...
Thanks a ton... that is actually what i did last night.. I was a little restless last night not totally sure I did the correct procedure.. I have though. You reassure that !!
Another ?. I am at TDC of the compression stroke. I can only move two of the rockers (exhaust side) the other two (intake side) are tight. I have to adjust them both at this time correct.. i don't set the intake at TDC of Comp. and the exhaust clearance at TDC of Exhaust stroke.
First time with motor torn down !! Thanks Again..
