Are cutting holes in the air box to put little breathers a good idea?

Are air box filters a good idea. cutting holes in your air box to put them in. are they worth the money.does it givey you any gains becides more air in to the box. are they ment for duneing where there is no mud. will mud and water get inside the box eaisly.?? any oppinions are appreciated.

They are a good idea, they let in air that is already filtered so it makes your airfilters job easier. They let in more air so you have more flow which = a power increase. They are made for people who don't want to remove there airbox lid. If water gets splashed on them they may let in a tiny bit of water but not nearly as much as without a lid. If you ride in dusty conditions they are good....if you ride in deep water and rely on your snorkel to keep water out then they are not for you. I just take my lid right off, and clean my filter often.
