first ride on a 400ex, it's almost decision time
#1
Got to spend some time an a new 400EX(rideing 300ex 2 yrs) man this thing is sweet, I love it. Handles like a dreem.
My brother in law bought a new one, after he rode it for a half hour, he let me ride the he11 out of it. It's a smoothe wheele machine(fun and easier than with the 300.) Got to pull a good hill 200+' tall and aprox 40 degree angle, pulled it WOT in 3rd with factory gear. I even got to hit a jump with it, my 300ex bottoms the susp, the 400 didn't feel like it even came close.
What is it about the 400ex's handeling that no other quad manufacture can duplicate. It seems most use the 400ex as the quad to compare to when it comes to handeling characteristics.
I was not impresed with the power(bummer). After reading about people complaineing of it being under powered, I was hopeing they were just "dare devels" but they are right.
My 300ex has one size up sprocket in the rear(it is geared down slightly from factory) and I like the throttel responce off the bottom. I have it geared like this because of some realy rough rock sections, and steep hills with tall rock ledges on trails that I ride often.
My 300ex pulls quite a bit better off the bottom than the 400ex does with it's factory gearing.
The 400EX comes factory with a 15 front and a 38 rear sprocket.
What gear combos are you guyes useing for the realy rough trails. Top end is not a concern, we never get out of 3rd on the trails(almost never). Does the lower gear make the 400 come to life off the bottom. Everything I have read says that the 400EX has more bottom end torque than the others.
I am goeing to buy a new quad in the next couple of months and I am doing everything I can to make the best choice. I got to do a real test ride on the 400EX but unfortunantly I can't do that at the dealers with the other choices!
Handeling is the most inportant, bottom end power in next, and the raw horsepower puts the iceing on the cake!!! So which quad did I just describe,? anyone????? Help me!!!
If I could really test them all, I would know which one...
