I'm looking for a quad for my son and I'm debating between a Blaster or a 250X. My son is 9 years old and he has been racing motocross, on a dirt bike, for 5 years. He knows how to use the clutch and he wants decent suspension. He's to big for the 80 & 90cc quads and the Breese doesn't have the suspension. Will a Blaster foul plugs if not rode hard all the time or would the four stroke 250X be better?

Thanks for your advise.

Well for a nine year old a Blaster might be better. The 250x is a great quad and if he feels comfortable just sitting on it that it might be better.

In May, 1999 I sold a Blaster that I bought brand-new in 1988 and it was running the original plug. That's 11 years on one plug and it was still running great when I sold it.

Since it uses an oil-injector, it is a very reliable 2-stroke and you get a pretty consistant gas-oil mixture.

The Blaster is a lighter-weight machine than the 250x and is a little more maneuverable in the air. Use the throttle limiter on the handle bar until he gets used to the power. Although, if he is used to racing dirt bikes, he probably won't have any problems.

It is a very forgiving machine that can tolerate high-revs racing and low-rev poking around equally well.

I was just in this exact position recently
myself looking at these same make/model's
for my 13 year old daughter. I ended up
buying a Blaster based on it's condition
and low price. allthough, for my situation
If I could have found the right 250X I'd
rather have got it instead. Main reasons: Bullet Proof, gas only, smoothe mellow power
band (4 stroke). Also it has hydraulic disk
brakes front & rear, while the Blaster has
drum (fronts) & a mechanical rear disk
setup. The Blaster is the most economical
sport Atv made and so consequently you'll
see a ton of them out there on the used
market. Anyway, in your case if your son's
been riding as long as you say I'd recommend
the Blaster. If you end up with one you might
want to consider disconnecting the oil tank
setup. If it fails you more than likely will
toast the top end. Ask around on this, most
people I've talked to agree that it's the
right thing to do for peace of mind.
