For one thing, you'd have a way to start it if the battery died while you were out riding...

This has been discussed many times before, and it would be very expensive to do. You'd have to get a new sidecase, gearset, kickstart assembly, figure out how to mount the kickstarter so it can kick full swing. I have heard of people making electric start XR's with EX parts before, and anything is possible with the use of the almighty dollar.

It would be pointless. Why bother, all your going to do is make yourself tired kicking over the thumper and lose maybe 5-10 pounds which isn't all that much unless you're of the drag racing type, but if thats the case you're on the wrong machine!

Yep. From what i've read, you can't keep both, it's either one or the other. Something to do with the flywheel/stator I think. Either way, don't worry about it too much. The same amount of weight can probably be lost off the rider if you're anything like me. You can also ditch some more weight with a PB blockoff, aftermaket pipe/bars, front bumper, ect...

Yea, then you add the gear and kickstart, and you've only lost 10 pounds. Cheaper and easier to call Jenny Craig!
