Big Dave,
At my first race, I had to sign up for AMA $35.00, they give you a AMA membership number. Than at the race they will ask if you have one. If not just pick one. That's what I did. Some tracks may vary. Also if you are racing often the AMA will keep track of how you do. Pretty sure on that one.
I'm batting 100% right now, won every race I entered. One race, with only me in the class, I won. Don't want to ruin a perfect run, so I don't race anymore.LOL
I do plan on getting in on some of the series MX around here though, to see how I really stack up.
