Will a 300ex motor bolt directly into a 250X? Thanks in advance.

yup, direct bolt up. not a whole lot of power difference tho, the 300ex motor is the exact same only it has electric start and a lil longer stroke, and by the time you add the extra weight for the starter and battery, you barely have more power than b4, yes, there is more there, and it's noticable, but not by much....

Would I have to use the electric start or could I just keep the kick start?

You would have to use the electric start.

Where would you mount the battery? I'm not sure where it's mounted on the 300ex. I would think you would have to get the plastic mount for the battery too.

You don't have to use the electric start. If you already have a 250X engine, you already have everything needed to convert it to kick start.
Most GN MXers did this back in the 300EXs hey day.

If you want to keep the electric start, it's not a big deal to adapt to the 250X frame. Use the 300EXs wire harness, handlebar switch, and battery mount.

The battery mount is cheap if you don't have one. It's nothing more than a steel bracket that bolts onto the left side of the frame. The battery will be the most expensive item. A good one [Yuasa] will run you about 75 bucks.

Question...
If I wanted to add a kickstarter to my 300ex, what would I need to buy or aquire ? Also If I remove my starter, doesn't that leave an opening in the engine, do they have some sort of cover to mount overtop of that !!
Does anyone have or now of the procedure for this.. I would like a backup starting operation, or totally remove the electric start..
Thanks
Jason

The only one that I ever really payed attention to used the left side cover from the 250X as well, so there was no starter hole. I suppose if one didn't have the cover, you could machine a block off plate from sheet aluminum to keep dirt and debris from the engine. Doing this would definatly be easier than replacing the whole side cover.
