IF I PUT THAT CRF450 ENGINE IN MY 400 WILL IT KILL EVERYTHING OR COME CLOSE TO BEATING OTHER QUADS? HOW MUCH HP CAN YOU GET OUT OF THEM? IS IT WORTH IT?

It would depend on the type of race and rider skill. If you only drag race you have 55HP at the crank, banshees have that at the rear wheels.

If you race Motocross it's all rider skill and if you suck HP will make it worse.

But if you have the money and it will take alot of it. Go for it.

It would cost you to much money. You might as well buy a new bike and mod the 400. The whole CRF conversion will be expensive but probably worth it. i cant wait to have a chance at riding one.

Yah,they're fast, but I think it was like you got 20 hours to a cylinder? I dont think it was the cylinders it was something else, but this engine requires an AssLoad of maintenance. Also in the June issue of DW they have a test on that exact thing. Go read that. Save yourself a few grand.

I read in my brothers motocross magazine that replacing the piston every 14 riding hours is highly recomended. If this is true then honda has a ton of work to do to perfcet this motor. My dad is going to buy a CRF450 on thursday. It is gonna be hella fun to ride, i cant wait. Anyways i hope he dosnt expect me to replae the top end every 14 hours. That would blow.

Thats just slightly excessive.... HONDA.
EVEN IF they ARE moto X bikes. My old CR125 (just as much a motoXer)
went hundreds and HUNDREDS of hours of recreational and flat out desert riding per top end.
Matter of fact, I had the bike about 5 years Absolutely rode the hell out of it.
Sometimes even EVERY day, for hours on end.. literally. I could ride right from my house. I rebuilt that motor ONE TIME in that 5 years. No joke.

(This is only valid if in fact the CRF rumors are true)

I have a 2002 CRF450 and it ROCKS! I am planning to build a quad with a 450 motor (can buy crate motors). I am looking at the Lonestar setups.

You can see them at http://www.lsracing.com/atv_quad_parts.php

If Honda puts one of those morors in a quad...I will feel REAL SORRY for the other companies...INCLUDING CANONDALE.
