400ex carb hop-up

Hey Ya'll, got a question for ya...
I've got a '99 400ex and went up to a 40 on the pilot jet, no problem. I hear now the hot set-up is a 160 main jet,White Bros CDI box(or a XR-250) and 3 turns out,from the seated position,on the air screw. Question is-what does the air screw have to do with the main jet? I thought it worked with the idle circuit,and the main worked with the venturi.

listen to your brother-in-law! go out 2 1/2 with
a 160 main jet. check the plug. if that does not
work,....sell it and buy a banshee. I heard you
were a yamaha man anyway! if you would ride the
400ex and quit saying its your wife's you might
like it!
