Should I buy the extended warranty?
#1
I have a 2002 Rubicon (still under 20 hours) with a 6 month factory warranty.
The salesman suggested I buy the extended warranty that would cost 400 or 500, I don't remember now... for a 4 year coverage.
I got a card in the mail today saying I only have 60 days in which to purchase this extended warranty.
I need the opinion of you pros here.... should I buy it, or is it a waste of money?
I'd hate to have to pay to have them work on the auto trans should anything happen to it.
Thanks...

I can tell you from first hand experience in dealing with the guys that DON'T buy the extended warranty that it is a VERY good idea to get it.
I would recommend anyone who owns a 4x4 to buy the extra coverage. Especially if the quad is ridden on a weekly basis. Regardless of brand, you will encounter a problem down the road that will cost major bucks to repair.
The CV axle for instance is the most expensive part of the 4x4s. This repair alone [if needed] will pay for it's self the first time if you have the extra coverage.

FastMud,
The one thing to remember is this is a negotiatable ite, They usally pay half of what it retails for. The big thing is some dealershops track how many the person sells and he may have a quota. Offer half and go from there. I got the one on e my Cannondale for $100 over cost, instead of 800 I got it for 500 for four years.

Being that this is only the Rubicon's second year of production, you might consider it if the price is right. While extended warranties are good money makers for botn the manufacturer and dealer, they also serve as evidence that the manufacturer believes the product will last. Otherwise they wouldn't offer one. That in itself is a red flag not to buy a given ATV.
In my opinion, an extended warranty is much less of a value on a unit that has been in production for some time.

With all extended warranties I calculate the potential $$ risk versus cost. If I can afford to repair or replace an major item, I don't buy the warranty. I hate bettting against myself. You know, "oh, maybe something will go wrong so i get my money's worth" kindof thing.
I would think that anyone financing a quad over 2-3 years should buy the warranty.
Of course getting a dealer to do the work in a timely manner is another battle.
