See my comments in the Suzuki forum. My initial impresion is that this will make a great desert bike. It has a 2-stroke like powerband, and LOW END POWER IS NOT THIS BIKES STRONG POINT!! If you are mostly a trail rider, I think you are best off on a 400EX with its ample low end power!! Pick the Z400 for open country where you want to go fast and rev to the moon!!

I think you will see the bottom end power pick up when the quad is broken in. My Z will pull itself at idle and if you hit the throttle it stands straight up with you. I have since changed the front sprocket to a 13 and drilled out the baffle in the silencer which seemed to help the bottom even more. There are very few open areas where I ride so the lower gearing is more important to me than being able to run 65 mph. I noticed in another post that you didn't want to change the front sprocket but you can change the rear 1 or 2 teeth and split the difference. Sidewinder has a gearing chart on their website. I purchased a tool steel front sprocket through them as the stock metal replacement gears seem to wear out quick on the new higher powered 4 strokes. Cryo works well also. It will extend chain life a bunch and reduces stretch.

How many teeth on the stock front sprocket (14 I presume, but I don't have the bike here, so I can't just go out and count them). Thanx!!

14 on the front and 40 on the rear. I really like the 13 I now have on the front. It totally got rid of the high geared feeling the quad had stock. It will now lug down in 2nd and 3rd and pull out of it hard. Out on the road on pavement I can roll along in 3rd and hit the throttle and it will instantly pick the front end up in a power wheely and pull hard. I can't wait to start changing the cams, pipe, airbox, etc... I weigh a little over 230 and I could use a little extra power. LOL

zookyrider-See my most recent comments in the Suzuki forum. This may be the quick and easy answer for trail riders!! For me this isn't going to be a trail bike, so I want to stick with taller gearing. Hopefully, engine mods will help the low end too.
