Rancher question?
#1
Just got my new Rancher and had it out yesterday on the first ride my first impressions are great. My question is what does the dealer do at the first service, change oil and filter, adjust valves if needed and what else. I bought my Quad a 2 hour drive from here and like to do my own sevice. My main question is as a rule do the valves have to be adjusted at the first service, (I put 85 miles on it first time out) and the dealer told me 60 to 80 bucks for the first service. Thanks for any replies in advance.

You have it right. All that first service is, is to extract a few more of your hard earned dollars. I waited until I had a couple hundred miles before I checked the valve adjustment on mine (450es). You can buy the oil filters from your local auto parts store too.

You should only have to take it in for the valves to be adjusted at like the 100 hour mark. You can change the oil like at 10 hours yourself, and the filter, to get rid of the metal shavings from breakin and stuff. After the dealer service, just keep changing the oil on a regular basis, and you're fine.
