what mods for 250r to beat banchi in sand
#11
A stock honda 250r can beat a stock banshee on a track. The honda 250R just out handles the banshee for cornering. Banshees do not have any bottom end as for ther honda they get out of the hole quicker. All the math but if u do not have a rider who rides a bike to its full potential what good is all the horsepower.
I ride an 87 quadzilla with a big bore kit and roost banshees all the time the only banshee that was really close was my friends 440 longrod banshee

Here is some personal experiance.
My friend got a 98 banshee (New at the time), thought it was the best in the world (like all banshee owners) I took my piped 85 atc 250r with bad wheel bearings, dragging rear disk, sloppy chain, has not been started in 3years(wouldnt even idle) and beat him across a field from idle to top speed I was in front.
He had no comment and put pipes on it the next weekend.

(sandmanblue)Whew, do I smell a little pent up hostility or what!
All I did was post a link and attempt to help the original poster by letting him see the numbers and decide for himself what needs to be done, and you flame away about semantics. As for trying to compare modified bikes, I suppose we could draw conclusions all day, not interested. I stated quite clearly in my original post I was talking about a stock bike (BTW, I ride with 2 very stock Banshee's).
As for questioning each other's experience, question away, flame away, I really don't care. I have over 19 years, started on bikes, then trikes (which, btw, will build your skills far beyond what any quad ever will), and now quads. I have always done all my own work, and my friends too (heck, probably worked on more bikes than a lot of people have ridden). I hope we can get together sometime and ride, then no doubt will be left either way.
Oh yeah, here's a good one (your own words):
"stock" Banshee SMOKE a stock TRX, and run neck and neck with a "stock" ATC
THEN:
And, your beloved three wheeler (I owned one BTW) - add a pipe and it runs with a stock Banshee
Which is it
?
I find responding to any more of your posts on this topic quite pointless, and you can go ahead and post the last word if it makes you feel better, as I will not lower myself to responding anymore.
Lighten up and keep an eye on that blood pressure sparky.....

Here's been my experience. It seems that I always try to steer clear of the "mine is faster" arguement. I own a highly modified '86 TRX250R. I ride exlusively in the dunes on the Oregon coast.
When I first started riding down there, I was in awe of all the really fast bikes. Chrome here and there, and some seriously built motors. Fast hillshooters really caught my eye.
I at first tried to build to run with the Banshees and found it a daunting task at best. After having a 250 cylinder ported, piped and carbed it, I was able to run with most PIPED Banshee's. My best guesses were around 45 HP.
I have been cursed, at least in motorsports by, being shall we say a "larger person" (6'4", 245 lbs.). This has always been a disadvantage when trying to race. The guy I'm racing should have to ride double to make up for that.
Soooo, I spend about two years fiddlin' with the 250 and got some decent power out of it. I switched to a motor builder that didn't ride in the sand dunes, therefore wasn't worried about getting beat by me, so he put 100% into my motor. I rode the heck out of that motor, did well, beat a few ported Banshee's here and there, but I would rather account those to rider abililty, or a lack thereof.
Which, I would have to say has a lot to do with being a good hillshooter. The start is very important, it is difficult to pull someone back in after they have caught you snoozing.
Which leads me to where I am today, with nearly $2000 in motor work to be able to hang with ported Banshee's. It's a ported 295 with a custom 2 plug head, a 39.6 carb, longer rod, the whole smooh. To hang...hang with piped, ported, bigger carbs (35mm), cut heads, aux. transfer ports, RZ tranny, Banshee's. What I would consider a very hot 350. I usually wind up at the grab bar. Other ported Banshee's I may be able to beat by a length at best.
My intention at first was to try to build a Banshee beater. Again a daunting task. I soon realized that it was difficult to do. I enjoy racing and will race anyone that lines up, I don't really care, let's get it on, you may miss a shift, whatever, and I will claim that a victory or very often when trying to race some Banshee's get half-hilled, almost, not really that bad but at least 3 to 5 lengths. Beat bad in my book.
I don't care if I get beat by a Banshee.
It's the point that I have taken the time to learn how to tune a motor, and work with a premier engine builder to get to the point that I have, that gives me my motivation. I don't care who or rather what I beat, but for me it's the getting there that I really enjoy, don't get me wrong, I am very competative, and enjoy getting the win, but it's not my sole focus. Continued learning is. Realizing how much it really does take to get to the point that I am today is exhilarating for me to have done it and continue doing such.
Stay tuned, the custom built drag pipe is now here, soon the 41.5 mm PWK will be too.....Can't wait for summer, a tunin' we will go......

If you really want a killer motor FTZ racing can build one of the pilot/trx hybrids for you. www.ftzracing.com
This motor will kill any banshee I've ever seen. Then again my 1986 honda 250R beats banshees all day long especially on a track. I just have porting, LRD pipe and silencer, cool head and a K&N air filter.
