My dad won't let me get a trx250r because he thinks they are not reliable. He thinks he is gonna have to be working on it all the time. please help me let him know that these quads are extremely reliable even though they are 14 years old. thanks

Yes they are reliable but you will be working on it all the time. Mine is an '87 and things are always coming loose, cracking, or breaking. Since I bought mine 3 years ago I have gone through 2 topends, a rear axel, a swingarm, and countless other parts that have either worn out or just broken. I am NOT complaining!! I LOVE MY R AND WOULD NOT TRADE IT FOR ANY OTHER QUAD!!

My 250r has been very reliable, I havent had to do anything to it, but put gas in it. You will have to do a top end once in a while though. I am doin mine right now, not that it was broke down or anything, just because it still had the original piston and rings in it. If you find a good one for a good price dont pass it up.

Reliable if maintained properly. This means cleaning and oiling air filter after every ride. Changing crank case oil after every other ride. Mixing fuel and two stroke oil PROPERLY! Taking off ignition cover and keeping dry and clean inside. There is alot more maintenance that is involved, but this should keep your motor going for a while. Also, have to keep a close look at reeds as they are prone to fraying and chipping. If I was going to play in the dunes, it would be my first choice. Not a good choice for trails with mud, water, woods kinda stuff.

Remember that ANY 14 year old machine is going to require more maintenance and repairs than a new one.

Mine has proven to be extremly reliable. When I first got it , it was a basket case but for the last 1 1/2 years all I do is clean/oil the air filter and change the crank oil period.

Mine has always been reliable to me. If you take care of it, it will last forever.
