I will beleive it when I see it...I have heard way too much about oh this and that is coming out and it will spank everything else.
I doubt seriously that it would come out anytime soon if it is true...IMHO
I hope Honda does do something soon or they are going to be out of the sport quad game for good. I have been waiting on something better than the 400ex to come out so I hope you are right.

Why would it be a 750, when they already have the highly successful desert race proven XR650 engine (the R&D is already done!) sitting there begging to be put in a quad??? It doesn't make much sense. When the XR400 came out, we saw the 400EX a few years later. It's been a few years since the XR650 came out, so I'm betting if it's anything at all, that's what it will be.

Actually, YZguy you are correct. The new Honda will have a modified version of the XR650 engine. Although the HP numbers will be lower the Torque numbers will actually be higher to better fit the quad's additional weight and use. The Engine is more closely related to the XR650R engine in that it will still have the 10:1 compression ratio and the Keihen 40 MM carb. It will have a different cam profile than the bike engine (more torque but less top-end HP), smaller valves likely and slightly heavier gears and different ratios to be more suitable to the Quad.
My friend tells me that the engine has been built and has undergone quite a bit of dyno testing and tweaking and is close to being put in a frame and tested that way. He tells me that dyno numbers (at the CRANK, not rear wheel) have ranged from 36 up to 43 HP; this should equate to about 29 to 37 HP at the rear wheeels. I forgot to ask about torque numbers but he said his team was directed to concentrate on lots of low end torque and limit the max flywheel HP to about 40 to 42 HP MAX. He said his bosses were VERY clear about the max HP numbers; I'm guessing they want to avoid lawsuits???
I am told that this new quad (I don't know the name of it) MAY be announced in September but maybe not until next spring I don't know but since the Predator 500 is coming out in the fall they may announce it around that time for marketing reasons. I'm not real clear on this becasue the person who I know (yes, from Honda) is involved with the engine/tranny R&D only; he does not work with the rest of the ATV (frame, suspension, etc) or release dates and such. Either way, It doesn't look like they will be out until next year sometime.
BTW, this is not my uncle or cousine or brother or anybody like that. It is a friend I have known for several years. He is an American but he works overseas but not in Japan. I won't say where because he isn't really supposed to leak this kind of info out.
There you have it, some solid info but only about the engine. Sorry I don't know more.
