Florida Riders Beware

Florida rider beware
I just go poped on this today and didn't even know about it. The cop wanted to arrest me. It seams as though there is a new law regarding atv needing to be registered in the state of Florida as of 7/01/2002.
Read this link
And this one.
The cop how stoped me told me they are illegal to ride because they are too dangerous and set everything on fire (brush). Can you believe this. I am called that police dept tomorrow to get their angle.
I understand the registration is to be used new riding areas to be proposed on 1/30/2003 and will be open by 2005. In the mean time I think they want us to pay for nothing. The closest riding area (legal) is 300 hundered miles away! Why should I have to pay registration for something that might happen 2 years from now, while in the mean time I am being threatened with arrest if I ride my machine ANYWHERE in south florida.

Unless your putting around on your own property, I see no reason for not spot checking titling/registration, I've said this before... Trust me the cops gonna be easier on you if he catches you with a stolen quad than I'd be.

You don't get the point, there is no legal palaces to ride and now they want you to register your vehicle but they are still illegal to ride. In other words pay to register to quad but you could on look at it in your garage.

Details: I'm a 34 year old professional. I don't drink and I don't ride around like an idoit and I wear full riding gear. My bike doesn't have a spark arrester. In florida up till now there was no need to title or register you bike. In Croom/Ocala (Floridas only legal place to ride) spark arresters are not required.
Florida, staring on 7/01/02, want to start requiring all ATVs to be registered. But the system is now will not be ready to start accepting registrations until (maybe) October.
Well, I was just putting around this dirt road that extends for about 4 miles. When I get back to my truck/trailer a police officer is standing next to it. He asks "do you know why I'm stopping you?". I tell him "I'm guessing you're going to tell me it is illegal to ride here." Then he says "You know, I should arrest you". When I go to ask why, he puts his hand up and tells me to keep quite. he asks for my drivers license, registration (for the truck) and insurance. Final he comes back and tells me it is that ATVs are illegal to ride because they are dangerous and start fires.
I start to ask since when are they illegal to ride but get out less than one word before he tells me to shut up and get out of here before he arrests me. Again I try to ask him a question and he stops me mid sentence and tells me to get the hell out before I get arrested for driving a unregisered vehicle. So I'm thinking, now it's because it's unregistered. So I start packing up as I really don't need any trouble as a guy on a banshee happens to ride by.
This time I look at the officer do his thing, he didn't even look at the bike to see if it was uregistered (whick like I said ATV registration will not be in service until October). In addition if you read the description of the registration process, the registered vehicle will not receive and tag or decal.
What really upsets me is the way the officer handled this. Like I don't have the right to talk to him much less ask him a question. I really pisses me of because I alone pay a good 30K in taxes which goes toward his salary. I could understand if I was rude but I was as polite as possible. I really should call the police station and get the straight scoop.
