would it be possible to build a fast quad for cheap? (anything is possible if you have enough money). as in, is there a quad that has a good frame, and offers several engine sizes. so you might be able to find a used one w/the small engine for cheap. ditch the little motor and strap on a big engine. maybe find a donor dirtbike or something for the motor. (you can always find a cheap dirtbike).

so any suggestions on a good frame and a good motor? a 4stroke motor would be nice since i've heard they're the most reliable. i'd like to be able to out run a Scrambler 500, and i'm 5'10" and light weight. and this would be a trail quad, no racing really.

or is this not a feasable project w/o spending a lot of money or doing a lot of fabricating?

a friend of mine had a "what is it" bike a while back. it was an old 250ex with an ATC350X engine in it with a supertrap pipe and a webcam camshaft and jetting. it had a six speed tranny and it's really compact so it's great for trails. it was bullet proof. another cool thing is that it had 300ex plastic and seat. people were always asking what it was. i think he bought it for 3000.

 

Narrow it down a bit. What do you wanna spend? Can give ya a better answer then I believe.
