Hi Guys,

Well, I'm looking into getting into MX racing and rather than spend the money on my Banshee I thought I'd just get something else...Plus I'd also like a 2nd quad just for the heck of it.

Anyway, a friend of mines roomate has a 2001 EX for $3800. It is supposed to be in great shape. For extras it has 4 holeshot XC's mounted on 4 douglas .190's, and nerf bars, a pro circuit exhaust, and different handlebars. I may have left something out, but you get the picture.

Now, the price doesn't sound all that bad compared to what I have seen, however I'm wondering about how much they are going to go down in value now that some other sport quads are hitting the market (and maybe a new honda sometime).

Anyway, I was just wondering if you guys could give me some opinions on what you would do as well.

Thanks.

-Josh

on the local MX track's all i see is 400EX's, and 250R's the occational banshee, and there's one lt250, and used to be one tecate 250. the 400EX's that are driven hard seem to smoke when reved high, this is because it's not really a high rev'in 4 banger (like the YZ250F) but the stock ones that are driven moderately, and look like they are looked after seem to do alright. there's one around here that the guy has 25++ grand into it, needless to say he wins them all. sweet looking ride though. overall the 400EX is well suited for MX racing, the handling is great, power is enough (with some simple mods) and they seem to be very durable

Thanks for the reply. The friend of mine that told me about the quad also has a 400ex that he races. He does very good. He's even raced it a few times in the open class and is very competitive against the bigger quads. His is bone stock engine wise so that is impressive. Another guy from up here took 3rd place in the Expert Open class this passed week on his bone stock 400ex.

What do you guys think about the price? That is what I'm concerned with.

Thanks again!

-Josh

Dude, its a 2001. The price is excellent, and you know that....
Just buy it, wouldnt it be nice to have to THINK about what quad you want to ride today?

Yeah, I have never ridden the EX, but I can picture what it is like for some reason.

We'll see what happens tomorrow. If it's in good shape I'll probably come home with it.

Besides having a quad to MX with, it will be nice to have one to do freestyle with as well. The Banshee can be a bit hard for that kind of stuff.

I would really like to hold out to see what Honda is going to make next...I guess it doesn't matter though cause if I bought it I would have to sell the Banshee to afford it so I'd rather not.

I hear so many people on here who swear by the EX so I'm excited to see what I have been missing.

I have only seen one run and it was in a straight line on blacktop so it wasn't in it's "element".

Thanks again.

UPDATE - Well guys, I don't know if I did the right thing or not, but I bought it. The problem is that the guy that told me about it was wrong and it was a 2000 Model year EX. The price sounded a bit much after I found that out, but the quad really impressed me.

$3800 was the lowest the guy would go...I figured I could find one around for $3300-$3500, BUT this one already had new nerfs, a pro circuit pipe, K&N power kit w/filter, and 4 brand new holeshot xc's mounted on ITP .190 aluminum rims. Most quads around here don't have stuff like this on them, and if they do then they have been raced and are in rough shape. So if I got one for $3300 without these accessories I would have about the same amount into it anyway.

As for the shape of it...the plastic has the typical scratches, and a pressure washer took the stickers off of it so at first glance it isn't all that sharp. However, the frame, engine, and everything important are MINT. I looked under the bike and you can not see any real scratches or wear underneath it.

Anyway, for a ride review...I have to admit that I am impressed with how it goes. Sure, it's not as fast as my Banshee in a strate line, but it does get up and go pretty good. Still getting used to the 4-stroke part, but it's not a big deal. Unfortunatly I haven't got to really ride it anywhere but at my Uncles farm (lawn and dirt road) so I can't comment on the handling just yet, but it seems great. You could tell that it cornered a lot flater than my Banshee, but the front end does seem a little light when exiting the corners...guess I just have to get used to it. Speaking of which, WOW, that sucker wheelies like crazy. I can literally take the longest wheelie I have ever had on my Banshee, double it, and that is what I was riding tonight. Really sweet since I have only had like 45 minutes worth of seat time.

So, after I got it home I felt really bad that I spent that much money on it...I still do, but I did and now I guess I have to live with it. I should have done a little bit more research first, but there aren't a whole lot around for sale. I compared it to a few Warriors I saw in the paper...2000 Warrior for around $3200-$3500...In that case mine doesn't sound all that bad because performance wise you can't compare the two quads. I'm not dissing the Warrior, but there is a huge difference.

Anyway guys, thanks for the help. I'm still feeling a little down so I needed to vent a bit.

Thanks for the help.

-Josh

money means nothing, as long as you got a good quad, and it's a HONDA. lol
