I have a 200 bigred threewheeler and it is making a weird noise from the engine, i think it is the valves, it sounds as if the are hitting hard or something. What can i do or does anyone know any other thing it could be.

Does it do it all of the time or does it do it just sometimes. If you rev it up, does the noise increase or does it stay the same. I'm no expert, but I had an old Honda 350 fourwheeler that would make a knocking noise that came from the engine also. I'll try to imitate it. At idle, it would go Tick....Tick....Tick.... but whenevery you rev it up it would go TickTickTickTick at a very fast pace with no pause. It didn't do it all of the time, and would increase whenever I reved it up. Someone told me that it sounded like the timing chain. I never did find out but nothing major happened to it after all the years that I rode it like that. However, I'm not saying you shouldn't check into it. I can see that you are concerned. You might check the timing chain or wait for someone else's reply. I'm sure someone could help.

My 83' 200ES big red had a valve tick to it at idle when i bought it.. I adjusted the valves and chain and the tick was much quiter, but still there. If it is a tick and not a knock then valves is your problem (rather small problem i may add) The manual should step you thew the process.. If not let us know..

Valve adjustment is a major deal on 4 strokes . Most people neglect this causing burnt valves and valve guides. The problem might be your chain tension for the cam. Or the valves may needs to be adjusted. And if you ran the bike a little low on oil the cam could be worn down and may need replacement

Thanks for your replies, i adjusted my valves and the sound did not go away i am going to try the tension of the cam chain. Also when it revs up the sound disappears it is only hear at an idle speed.

sounds like your timing chain. the 250 s were known to have a rattling chain at idle when they had some wear. most just drive them till they drop which is a long time, or if you are mechanical replace the chain. there is no adjustment on the chain it has an automatic adjuster on it already. hope this helps.

From my experience with honda motorcycles i'll tell what i know.Sounds as though your cam chain may be stretched too much and is hitting the cyl head. These 4 strokes will do this if the auto adjuster cannot adjust it enough or isn't adjusting at all. There should be a specific procedure for adjusting your cam chain, usually loosening a lock nut and turning a bolt with the engine on or off.If this doesn't work, sometimes the adjuster becomes seized, and requires a few tapps to free it.hope this helps, like i said this experience is with a cb750 motorcycle, but usually honda doesn'e stray too far on design.

I forgot to mention that if were you i would drainthe oil and look for metal particles in it.This would indicate the chain hitting the head or some other damage.I don't mean to scare you ,its just an idea.

Defently sounds like the chain to me too.. On my 83' All I had to do was loosed the nut under the black cover on the rear left side of the cylinder with it idleing to adjust the chain..
