Honda Rancher
#1
I just bought a new Rancher 4x4 last week and I was wondering if anybody has heard when or where I can get a winch mounting kit for it. The dealer which I bought it from said it would be a two month wait. I was hoping it would be out sooner than that.

I bought my mounting kit at the Honda dealer the same day I bought my Rancher. I'm not sure, but I think that the mounting kit was also made by Warn. The dealer had everything that I needed. I wish that I would have went with a Rocker switch rather than the round switch that came with it. I had to mount it on the front rack rather than the handle bars. Other than that I like the way the winch is mounted up under and behind the front bumper. You can't even see it.

I went through the same questions about 6 weeks ago. Here is a post I made on 8 Feb that summarizes the results. I would add that the Superwinch handlebar mounted rocker switch is great. And the Moose mount works very well. The winch is mounted behind the front bumper, with the weight virtually centered over the front axles.
The one slight downside was that the predrilled mounting holes on the Moose mount did not leave enough clearance for my taste between the winch motor and the left frame tubing. I spent 5 minutes drilling some new mounting holes and everything worked out fine.
"After a few days, some online advice and many phone calls, I think I have the solution I was seeking.
1) I bought the Superwinch ATV2000 from Northern Tool & Equipment at www.northern-online.com for $206 delivered. This 2000 lb capacity winch includes the handlbar mounted rocker switch and 50 feet of cable.
2) After lots of checking around, my local Honda dealer found out that "Moose"? has a winch mount for the Rancher. It has just become available. The mount, including a roller fairlead, is $75. It handles both Superwinch and Warn winches.
3) To disable the rocker switch, I am simply going to put an inline disconnect. I have a big Warn winch on my Jeep and used a similar arrangement there. The switch costs about $3 at Walmart.
I think this will cover all of the bases. I will know for sure on Thursday when the winch and mounting kit are to arrive."

I've found good prices at www.atvpartsdepot.com. They carry Warn winches and have a mount for the Rancher (the only one I found online).
The mount is $47.50 and the winches are $280 and $340 for the 2000 and 2500 respectfully. I'm ordering the 2500, since you get a remote cable, a stronger relay, and a roller fairlead.

Warns part number for the winch mount is 60794 and the roller fairlead is 28929. Give that to your local dealer and they can order it for you. I have a Rancher and that is the part numbers given to me by Warn. I got mine in a couple of days and it works great. I was able to mount my switch on the handle bars and it works great. I have needed it several times already for me and my brothers Rancher. He is going to order a winch any day now that he has seen how helpful they are.

Make it yourself. It is not that hard and far less expensive. I used 1/4" aluminumplate and drilled the holes for the U-bolts.
For a look, go to my yahoo page and see the pics. I've got like 50.00 in everything, including the roller fair lead.
Oh, and does it work well, I used it just tonight to winch a tree out of the trail, it had fallen in the way, and to pull my buddie out of the mud.
Any questions, I be happy to answer.
