valve adjustments

just because they chatter doesnt mean they need to be adjusted.
my 400ex was quit I took it too the dealer too have the 30 hour service,,(valve adjusted). when i picked it up and started it the valves chattered .I asked the mechanic and he said thats normal , they where way too tight before,, he said i had no clearance at all.. my buddy says most times if they stop chattering then start worrying,
pick up a sevice manual and check them your self, thats what im going too start doing, its supposed too be pretty easy.

midlifecrisis is correct. There is a small ammount of clatter to be expected from these engines.
Here are the clearances so that you see how far you are off. If you don't want to overdo it, set them at the highest ammount of clearance witin spec.
Be sure to check clearances with the engine cold.
Remove both rockerarm cover caps.
Remove the SMALL inspection cap on the right side of the engine and align the "T" mark on the flywheel with the notch in the inspection hole. See if you can move the rockerarms up and down. If not, turn the crankshaft one more time to the "T" mark. You want BOTH rockerarms to be able to move.
INT....0.004"-0.008"
EXH....0.004"-0.008"

reconbasher,
By the way.....You didn't break anything on your quad after that close call did you?? I didn't see anyone hitting that jump as fast as you were.
I heard a "Ohhhhhhhhhh Shiiiiiiii" from everyone there at one time and when I looked up....all I saw was a 250X coming in for a grab bar landing...LOL
Glad you're okay though.
