I ride a 99 modded blaster. Its great. But not i want more power. My question is does the ex stand a chance with the r. Im not a big fan of 4 strokes, but i dont wanna have to search for parts and also the R is 12 years old. I ride trails. pits, hills, and some mx. The trails arent that tight and i can pin my blaster in them. But i want power to get up big hills and be able to take any MX double. So ex or R?

I love my EX. It has plenty of power for hills and mx, electric start and unmatched reliability. The R has more power, kick start, and no telling how long it will last. In my opinion the ex is the better choice if u want something u dont need to put in the shop every month.

Well get a 250R, if you have a Blaster and like that and don't like weak 4 stroke power get the R. There is 0 searching for parts, Ebay has hundreds of parts and there is an unlimited aftermarket for 250R's. You can gt more power out of them for less then an EX and still retain some reliability. If you do proper maintenince you should be allset. Do a compression test every once and awhile, kee oil changed, clean your filter, and make sure to have your jetting spot on and you'll be set. I've had mine for over a year now with no problems that I didn't cause myself....it's never been "in the shop".

When you buy one bring a friend with you that knows something about R's to insure you get a good one...88-89 are the ones to be looking for....86-87 are good too but I'd rather be on the later models...

250R's are kick@$$ in pits...they climb hills with ease and are one of the bestMX quads...

I have never driven an "R", but I can tell you that I really enjoy riding the 400ex. It's simply a blast to ride. Personally I didn't think that I would like the 4 stroke at all. I have never owned anything other than 2 strokes. The way the power developes is a little bit different, and a few other things, but nothing that I can actually complain about or say I dislike.

Unfortunatly, since I have never ridden a 250r I can't give you my opinion on the two. All I can say is you probably can't go wrong with either one.

By the way, Killer250r, weren't you trying to trade your 250r for a 400ex?

Oh I see...

I would like to try out an "R" one of these days, but there aren't many around here. I know of one guy that has one, but I don't know him personally (friend of a friend). We were supposed to hang out together a few times this summer but it never happend.

Either way I'm happy with my 400. It's so much more "fun" to ride than the Banshee. The overall power isn't there, but the low end tourque is nice and wheelies and goofing off are a blast.

Man, I drove my Uncles trike tonight...it's an old 200x but that thing was a ball. It was actually fairly fast too (for a 200).

It's funny how you get into different phases when you want different things in a quad. When I got back into ATV'ing from Bikes I just wanted something to drive on the trail. My buddy had a Polaris Sport for sale for a good price so I got it. Ended up getting sick of trail riding and I wanted something really fast that I could jump and handle a little easier so I bought the Banshee. The rush of the scary fast Banshee started to wear off and I wanted something to play on and something I could handle better at the track. Then comes along the 400ex.

LOL...I guess the next step would be a Utility quad. God, I hope it doesn't come to that.

fez-get an R If you like power.A 400 will never keep up with a 250 r

But if you get a 440 kit then you will smoke an r.Theres a guy that always races motocross with me and he has a 440 kit and he will pull my r out of the hole alot of times

If i could either have a free stock 250r or a 440 in a 400ex I would choose the ex.Im not gonna lie my r locks up alot.

?????

Well I would say get the 400 ex if you ride trails and get the 250r for dunes/mx, but since the ex doesnt have reverse...it = crap for woods. So theres no point in getting a ex over a 250r.

Crap in the woods??? I have owned many machines and none have had reverse. And you know what, I never needed it. I ride almost exclusively trails/woods and if I couldn't get my **** off the machine and turn it around then I don't deserve to ride it. At least thats my opinion. The ex is the best trail machine I have ridden.

yes, crap. considering for the same price you could get one that has reverse/faster/liquid cooled. but since u want a honda, mine as well get the R since your gonna have to get off and push it back anyway. Mine as well have the one thats the fastest.
