Just my 2 cents. I have ridden a Polaris 325 Explorer. It seemed like a rocket..... after I got above about 10 MPH. When the belt really bit, it launched. But the antisipation of waiting for the BITE, was killin me. I kept thinking that the parking brake was stuck. I also like the feeling of knowing how fast my wheels are going to be spinning, based on engine RPM. You cannot convince me that at X RPM's, your wheels will be spinning at Y RPM's, on an Auto. This is probably something that auto ridders are used to. For instance, on short (under 20' very steep hills, I know that wide open I will be traveling the equivelent of about 10 MPH. Never faster, never slower, unless of course I'm spinning. At 10 MPH on an auto, you can be anywhere from just above an idle to wide open, depending on the load on the belt. That would drive me crazy. Also, what about the positive, throttle to wheel relationship that you don't have on an auto? How do you, at crawling speed, goose it to jump over a log or bump on the trail? I think that alot of these questions are answered by experience on each type of machine. Personal preference, riding style, and ultimately, where they hang, determine which machine is capable of what.

Hey HLForeman,

I would love an explanation on how you got a quad with standard 7.7 inches of ground clearance up to 12" of ground clearance, and how you plan on raising it to 15" in the future???

Easy Buy a 2" lift kit and a 2" taller tire.
I will have pics of it later on! I measured it myself! To have 15", add 28" tires and a lift on bottom. Mine, right now has lift on top!

Bigred you better go back and read that review again on atvconnection that was a test without ebs the sportsman has so much hold back you have to give it gas going down hills...and doesn't adding a 2" tire give you 1" clearance sorry I don't believe the story about the 12" clearance let alone 15" but just think if I would have done everything to my sportsman you did I would have 24" clearance and TRUE 4 WHEEL DRIVE and then again you could have saved a couple thousand bucks or more doing all that to your honda if you would have just bought a sportsman...I don't mean to be a but fellows but it is like comparing a vet to a lamborgini if I put all the extra money in that vet I would have paid for the lam the vet would eat it alive...just imagine if you put $2000 more into a sportsman, as Homer simpson says ooooooo (slobbering)

HLForeman,

If you go from a 25" tire to a 28" tire your actually only increasing your GC by 1.5", so that brings your stock GC of 7.7 to 9.2 inches of GC. (which is pretty good). Adding top or bottom lifts will not raise your ground clearance at all. At least not GC for the lowest point of the quad, the rear diff. So I am wondering is your 12" and 15" GC at the skid plate of your quad???

Ground clearance should meassured from the ground to the first part of the bike that will hit something it goes over, usally the bottom of the rear chain sprocket or bottom of rear axle housing.
