Can I ask? Are they really in the same class? I have a hard time seeing these quads as marketed towards the same people? To me they are really not comparable. The Polaris seems to me to be marketed for all around use, more towards the sport side but still retaining allot of utility, 4 stroke , 4 wheel drive, reverse , eletric start and the fully auto tranny. While the 400ex has only the 4 stroke motor that is the same. Seems to me to be an all out sport bike. To me they both succeed very well in what they seem to be intended for.

The Scrambler series are sport quads, but, what's your point? Just because two machines are both classified as "sport" machines doesn't mean they are for the same people.

When's the last time Car & Driver did a "Miata VS Diablo" shootout? They are both sports cars. What about a funny car vs stock car? They are both race cars. You want to keep it quads, what about a Banshee vs LT80? Suzuki calls it a sport machine, it better be able to keep up!

The Scrambler 500 and 400ex are both sport machines, and both are good for the right people. I compared the two before I bought my Scrambler. Bascialy, what I have decided, is that if I wanted to do what the 400ex is designed to do I would buy a dirt bike. It has more speed, better handling, and less weight than the Scrambler or 400ex. What about dunes? Banshee or DS650...heck, a sand rail!

I was riding at a place called Shiloh Ridge a few months ago. Everything from MX tracks to mud racing tracks. I spent the whole day in the mud and on the trails. Watching 400EX's and Warriors get stuck, whether it be mud or just trail obstacles, and seeing how they couldn't climb some of the hills I could because they were 2wd and spun the whole way up. Then I went to the MX track... I kept up with a YZ250 just fine! Of course it way raining, and I had all 4 tires spinning and he was sliding and falling over the whole time. Hehehe, see the Scrambler is a good race machine... It dried up and saw a 400ex cut off down a cross-country track. I followed, or tried. I couldn't keep near him, he was too fast through the jumps and made everything look easy. But hey, that's what it's designed for!

Let's sum this up. If you don't want 4wd, get the 400ex. If you do, get the Scrambler. Because basicaly that's what it all comes down to. Most everything the Scrambler does better is because of it's 4wd abilites. I wanted 4wd, so I bought the Scrambler.
