yamblaster98,

The motorcycles trans is not strong enough.

They look very similar in appearance but are not the same at all. The 400EX's cases were strengthened and made wider. The gears were made stronger. The swingarm pivot point is different.

Its ashame they didn't keep the same state of tune that the XR400 has stock.

XR400--32.4 bhp
400EX--25.4 bhp

I tried an XR cam and head pipe but lost low end power. There are a bunch of XR riders using the EX setup. If you pull the EX head pipe it looks restricted, this acts like the power stuffer you read about, it increases exhaust gas velocity at low speeds and therefor increases torque but it does decrease hp. Trust me the HP numbers are missleading the quad has the better setup and most people riding the XR w/ the EX cam and pipe know it. It changes the way the bike comes out of the hole and makes it work much better in the tight stuff which is where the bike was made to run. If you switch to an XR cam make sure you get the CDI as well or the rev limiter on the EX will shut you down before you get to your new found HP.
