I have heard that the new Sur Track system on the Rancher 4x4's doesn't work. Have you had any problems with it? How well is it in the mud?

One of the guys I know has a Rancher and we were out touring around and at one of the stops he was playing around. He was climbing a little hill and one of his front wheels came up off of the ground because his rear tires had spun out in the snow. I noticed something funny cause I had read about this sur track differential. So before he backed out of the spot I told him to spin the tires again just so I could see what was going on. The wheel in the air was spinning and the one on the ground looked like it was trying to spin. What the wheel on the ground was doin looked like it would slip, then catch, then slip, then catch, and so on.

According to the Honda owners manual, one should saw the handlebars left and right to help the diff to decide where the power should go. Also works on 4wd trucks with limited slip diffs.

aby11,
As I said in my reply to your other post, I am very happy with the peformance of the Sur Track system on mine. Both front wheels have spun at the same time in both mud and snow. At other times, only the one with traction has spun. I have not seen it spin the tire without traction uselessly as others have claimed. I will try turning the bars next time to see what happens. There have been other posts on this topic and it seems that not everyone has had the same good experience as I have. Maybe there is a problem with some of them and I just got lucky. I doubt it though, if there is a bad one I usually get it!

I had my Rancher in the serious mud for the first time last weekend. I got stuck in a really deep hole, when the frame got hung up in the center. I noticed as I sat there spinning the tires, all four were spinning. I finally leaned to one side, and got both left side tires to bite, and it pulled itself out of the hole. The front tire that was on the ground pulled, or I might still be in that hole.

Mine does work. The other guy is right, you have to move the handlebars to get grip.

Phalynx is correct. He is the one that told me to saw the handlebars back and forth.
I believe in giving credit where credit is due!
