I just ordered a Big Gun slip on and was wondering if it was going to be obnoxiously loud? The website says it will be 98 db, but I have heard people say it is over 102 db which is on the loud side. I just don't want to annoy the neighbors too much. Will I need to invest in the quiet core?

 

I had on before they have a lot of power but are LOUD I hear the 400ex at the local pit comming down the road a mile away

 

Get the quit core, you can hear my bike from the pits when I am at the back of the track, you can not even hear the stock YZF426 from there and they are loud.
IMO the Big Gun b/c of the deep sound carries futhur but it has a really great sound, so get the quiet core, it comes standard with the race core so I jetted for that and use it on the track then insert the quiet core w/ spark arrester for off road.

 

Thanks for the replies. I think I will order the quiet core today. Anyone know how much it chokes down performance? I know there will be a tradeoff but just was wondering how much.

 

I had the complete Big Gun on my 2000 400ex,,with the race core......
It was loud,,but sounded good. With the jetting,,it improved torque a lot...
Not sure about the quiet core..

I noticed a little loss on top (may have been my imagination) but I did not notice any drop on bottom or mid. I think the quit core may even help on the EX b/c of a little more back PSI.

Well, I got the big gun installed with the quiet core and it isn't much quieter. Maybe a touch. That's ok though cuz the pipe sounds really nice. Has a deep growl to it. daimon1054 does your quiet core sound any quieter? I can't wait to open 'er up tomorrow.
