Default 250 Recon Starting Problem

My wife has a 2001 250 recon and last week I put a 1 amp charger on the battery without disconnecting it from the ATV. Just wanted to give the battery a quick recharge before this weekend's outing. Anyway, I don't know if it had anything to do with the starting problem we're now experiencing, but this past weekend the only way we could get her Recon running was by using the recoil starter rope. When we'd push the starter button it would turn the engine over once, then stop, then once again, then stop, then maybe twice, then stop. It would never continuously turn the engine over in an attempt at starting the engine. It was exactly as if I had a very very weak battery (BUT, I checked the charge rate and it was at 100%) so I know the battery is OK. Any clues or suggestions what the "malfunction" may be? Obviously it's starter related, but I haven't a clue where to start checking. Appreciate any advice and/or suggestions. Thanks.

I'd still suspect the battery. Unless you test it with a load, it can still be bad. When you jump it off from another battery does it crank? Also check ground wire.

Put booster cables on it from a car battery or another battery you know to be good. If it starts good, then check your connections at the battery. They may be corroded or loose. If they are OK, your battery may be hooped. If it doesn't start when you try to boost it check your wiring to the starter and if it's all good, then the problem may be your starter. or the starter solenoid.
