I was talking to a couple of guys in the woods, and one of them said he had a stick come up through the a arm and put a hole in his cv boot. So I decided to make up some a arm protectors and the other day another guy told me they are no good either because the mud builds up on top of them and will tear the boot too. Any advice or experience would be appreciated. Terry M.

Protection is great but i feel that you can not build something that no matter what there will be something that will hit the place you try to cover up and protect no matter what. The plastic covers that come with your quad are the best, they deflect just about everything but still you will find that if you go to a harded material, when you do hit that something it will probably bend the material to the point it will take out a rubber. Just my 2 cents.

I have a set of Ox-Lite stick guards on my 96 Foreman
they have what looks like a slot in the bottom that will let goop out I think they work great and if you can bend them by hitting something you would have bent the A frame also they are very strong. I have been reading on the atv newsgroup that the AP sticks guards cover better so check them out they were not available in 96 when I got mine. I feel its a good idea to have them you should of seen how torn up my stock plastic ones were.
Good luck
Glen

I can vouch for the AP Stick Guards. They offer better protection than any others I've seen on the market. They put the stock ones to shame. As for buildup, it hasn't been a problem for me. I clean my machine after every ride though.

I've got the Oxlite's too, and the mud can build up, but i've never had mine build up to the point to were they would harm the boots...

also, the chances of the mud hurting the boots is a billion times smaller than a stick going through one...

safer with the guards, i wouldn't go anywhere without mine.

I'm with Glen06. I have the same thing on the same quad. If you hit hard enough to bend these dudes, you won't want to get on it for awhile anyway. Mine are probably 1/4" thick, welded and clamped to the a arms. Never had too much mud build-up, but I never say never. I do much more woods/trail riding than mudding so, knock on wood, it hasn't been a problem yet.

Where do you get the AP stick guards? Do you have an email address or website or an 800 number?

THANKS!

Their website is at http://www.aluminumproducts.com

They have real good prices, and if they don't have a dealer in your area, they will offer them to you at dealer price.
