05 Brute Force 750 - Help and Accessories Wanted.
#1
I recently purchased a 2005 Brute Force 750 4x4i with 1,100 miles. It came with the following mods
ITP SS wheels and MudLite Tires
Moose Power commander installed
HMF (sp?) pipe
K&N Filter
Carbs have been re-jetted (I have stock jets as well)
Insanely fast. It is a beast for sure… Anyway on to the questions… I took it and got it serviced by my ATV shop and they gave it a clean bill of health. Said all looked good, seals, etc. changed out all of the fluids, etc. I took it out riding and at first the fan was running, then stopped… then the overheating problems began…
Bus Connector - I searched through the forums and it sounds like the bus connector needs to be cut out…OK I can handle that… But I have questions in the following areas
STARTING – I read about how it doesn’t have a true ‘choke’. I plan on using this for duck hunting in cold weather… My buddy has an 2006 model and it’s HARD to start in the mornings… good thing he had a new battery, b/c most mornings it would take all of it to get started! Any help here? I read on fuel type and cleaners… What do you recommend in the way of fuel and cleaners…. It’s Hunting Season here in AR… I will be on this machine every other day from now until Feb, so no real need to address storage at this point (unless you are kind enough to take the time to add to your reply)
Sway Bar – Someone said to remove? What for and how will this affect my machine?
Fan Relay/breaker – Is it a good idea to try and replace? Should I just try the bus connector first and go from there? Or should I replace while I have everything torn apart?
Are there any other common problems that I might want to address before they come up?
Accessories –
I have some ‘stick stompers’ on my Honda that I have thrashed for 5 years… never lost a CV boot yet… I have seen some pictures of a BF750 with diamond plate a-arm protectors. I have heard of a full length skid plate? Floor board protectors? Don’t know how much $ I want to invest at this point
Thanks in advance for your time. I’m sure every day some new turd shows up and asks the same questions… I did try the search function and have looked all over the web. Thank you for taking the time to reply, your response will not fall on deaf ears!
Thanks,
George

George,
Cold Weather Starting
My '05 starts just fine even in 5 F degree weather if choke (actually a fuel enrichener) is used. Push the choke lever all the way to left and don't give any throttle. If still doesn't start, something else is wrong.
Sway Bar
Leave them alone. They are there for good reasons.
Fan Relay
Replace only if it is verified to be defective.
Bus Connector
Modify it even if there is no sign of problem, because there will be.
Your dealer said everything is checked out OK. What was the belt deflection measurement?
Other tips
Don't go in water deeper than seat height.
If you go in water any depth, go slow to prevent water gets kicked into the air box.
Use synthetic eninge oil both in front gear box and in engine.
Don't spin wheels in mud trying to get traction if you get stuck. Either winch or tow it out.
Use LO gears whenever towing or using 4WD.
Again ATV is all terrain vehicle designed to be used on land/terrain not in water. If you like to play in water, get a boat or submarine.
Get A-Arm skid plates to protect CV boots.
Floor board is plastic so either be careful or get a aluminum set.
Get a factory service manual. That will be the BEST investment you would ever make on your quad.

Hay - Thanks for the reply!
Thanks again...
George,
Your dealer said everything is checked out OK. What was the belt deflection measurement?
Did not get the measurment. Serviced at general shop - not KAW shop
