I know they sell a shock relocater kit for putting 250r a-arms on a 300ex,and I have put my stock 400ex a-arms on my friends 300ex and they bolted rite up.So based on that info. your swap should work.

Type3Tom.... You said you bolted your 400ex a-arms on your friends 300ex. Did you ride it ?? The shock bolted up also ?? What do you gain from this ?? Width? Do they move forward or not??
Thanks for the info..

I hav'nt tried they're 300ex since we did the swap, but putting 400ex a-arms and tie rods(the stock ones are too short)gave them about 3 or 4 more inches in width,I never measured to see if it brought the front end out any father or not but I dont believe it did.The stock 300ex shocks dont work any more (they are too short)I didnt try putting my 400ex shocks on it since Im still using them,we put 250r shocks on it which are alittle to long but hes going to order the shock relocater kit that they sell if you put the 250r a-arms on a 300ex.Hope this helps.
