I was wondering how I could get the power of my 400ex to be an on command deal without having to ride it like a two stroke, am I having high hopes? What I am talking about is like if I am in the woods on a tight trail and I am down in second or third and I need to slide around a tree stump or something, how can I get the quad where I can just grab throttle, and get that burst without hesitation and without having to always feather the clutch. A local dealer told me that the K&N Power Kit would help me out alot(plus modifying the airbox). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Change your front sprocket to 14 T plus the K&N kit and the air box vents. Get a Supertrapp IDS2 (it's cheaper than the others and the response is ok),White Bros rev kit,Web Cam 450/451 grind and hardwelded rockers then you'll get the power you'relooking for.

I'VE MODIFYED THE STOCK MUFFLER, CUT A HOLE IN THE AIRBOX AND REJETTED THE CARB. I ALSO ADDED A NEW SET OF HOLESHOT XC TIRES AND I CAN BLIP THE THROTTLE ANY TIME AND SLIDE IT. I CAN ALSO BRING THE FRONT END UP IN FOURTH GEAR. THOSE CHANGES MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN MINE.THE RESPONSE IS ALOT QUICKER THAN STOCK. OH YEA, IF IT'S A 2000 MODEL YOU WILL PROBABLY NEED TO ADJUST YOUR THROTTLE CABLE TO OPEN UP ALL THE WAY. THEY ARE NOT SET RIGHT FROM THE FACTORY. MINE WOULD ONLY OPEN UP ABOUT 90%.

THE STOCK MUFFLER IS A VERY GOOD ONE, BUT IT NEEDS THE QUIET CORE INSERT TAKEN OUT SO IT CAN BREATHE BETTER. THE END CAP COMES OUT AND YOU CAN SEE THE WIRE MESH SCREEN THIS IS THE SPARK ARRESTER. IT IS HELD ON BY THREE TACK WELDS. THESE NEED TO BE GROUND OFF AND THE ARRESTER NEEDS TO BE REMOVED. THEN JUST UNDER WHERE THE WELDS WERE ON THE END CAP THE PIPE NEEDS TO BE CUT OFF WITH ENOUGH REMAINING TO WELD THE SPARK ARRESTER BACK ON. WHEN THIS IS DONE AND YOU LOOK AT THE END CAP FROM THE BACK OR STAINLESS PART, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE ALL THE WAY THROUGH IT THE OPENING SHOULD BE 2" INSTEAD OF A 2" HOLE WITH A 3/4" PIPE STICKING OUT OF IT. THE SOUND WILL BE A LITTLE LOUDER THAN STOCK BUT A GOOD SOUND. IF YOU LEAVE THE SPARK ARRESTER OFF OF IT IT WILL BE PRETTY LOUD. I HOPE THIS HELPS. IT REALLY A VERY EASY THING TO DO IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TOOLS.
