Question for ATV mechanics
#1
I'm thinking about going to school to work on ATV's and motorcycles, I just have a few questions for the mechanics out there. Where did you get your training? How and when did you know that ATV repair was what you wanted to do as a career. And last, what is the career like, was it easy to find a job? Do you still like the work after doing it for however many years you have been doing it? If I decide to do this, I plan on going to AMI in Daytona Beach, FL. anyone know anything about this school or gone there yourself? Any and all info will be greatly appreciated. Thx. Lata.

Personally I would go to an automotive training school. Most of the theory still applies and you will have more job oppurtunities if you cant find a motorcycle position for a while. Im not sure that being an ATV mechanic would pay as much unless you had your own shop.

If you are thinking about opening your own shop and repairing quads and bikes. Check into the cost of garage insurance. You have to have that. Then you will have to be set your busness up as a LLC so the lawers can only take your shop and not every thing else you own. . More tax problems. I quite repairing bikes about a year ago. My insurance went up to $7500.00 a year. Every person that has a wreck or gets hurt or sees away to make a buck gets a lawer and comes after you. Even your own kin. The lawers tell them they are not after you they are after your insurance. The lawers wave that dollar amount in front of them and they set up and beg. If you work for someone else, around here in WV, OH and PA they make about $6.00 to $8.00 a hour WOO big money.
