Leaning toward the 400ex

The trick is to only talk otd price, and be set on your limit. you should be otd for about or just over for the HONDA, (200-300) for the Z. When you see the final rightup, it will have the ride for about 5300 and it not shipping or dealer prep they would rather take that off and keep the price on the quad high.

thats a good quad, it has a proven track record and theyres tons of goodies out there for it.
about the only time i use reverse is when i'm backing the quad out of the shed. you prob wont miss it at all.

I work at a honda dealer and can tell you that 02's are going OTD for 5199 and 03's for 5499. neither is a good deal considering that this quad is way underpowered compared to the new Z400 and KFX arctic cat quad...don't buy the 400ex because it will soon be replaced...no word on with what yet, but the 400ex is just not the machine it once was...I own one and like it a lot, good reliability, looks and unbeatable chassis...but when you look at the differences between it and the other models available(liquid cooled as opposed to air cooled, DOHC as opposed to OHV, etc.) you WILL be disappointed soon after your purchase...good luck!!!

DCopp,
No offense and I don't mean to flame here, but what if some one wants a nice reliable sporty quad? What if someone doesn't want to beat everyone on the block in a drag race? I had a 1997 Sport 400L that would KILL any stock machine and whoop up on most modified ones. I ended up getting rid of it because it was a maintenance nightmare (not because it was unreliable). As we all know from the magazines, the quad with the most horsepower doesn't always win shootouts (Feb 2003 ATV Action). Using this (fuzzy) logic the 400EX should still be at the top of the heap in sport machines.
I bought my 400EX because it is a machine I could ride hard and put up wet. I didn't want a machine that I'd have to spend an entire day cleaning, greasing and doing various maintenance chores to it to keep it running. If I'd have wanted horsepower (and the hassle), I'd have kept the Sport.

DCopp,
No the other brands are just as reliable as the Honda is. One of the main reasons I chose the Honda is the marked lack of grease fittings on it. Yes, I know the machine will last alot longer if you grease it on a regular basis, but I'm still tired of greasing the Polaris after every ride. If a part wears out, I'll replace it (most likely with a stronger aftermarket part). Still, after the Polaris, it's nice to know that I can get aftermarket parts for it without searching for days on the computer.
