This brings light on what I have always beleved. "You cant get caught if noone knows your there" I ride in clear cuts behind our house with premisson but some of the nebors hate it. Every quad and bike I own is below 80db. I have always kept the stock silencer and kept the baffel in all my bikes, My 91' XR250R is as quiet as my Toyota truck. noone can complain if they dont even know your there Some complain on power loss but me and my friend both have 96' XR400R bikes and he has his baffel out, he has never out ran me. He did get a tad more off throttle torque but thats it, while I have alot more rideing areas than he does

Riding on your own land as fast as you want and as loud as you want is OK. Problem is if you have neighbors nearby, someone will get upset with the noise/dust,etc. You would too if it were constant and excessive.I've ridden CR 125 and 250,XR 500,Honda Odyssey,Snowmobiles, and quads in my neighborhood and have always been careful not to "rip" until I was well out of "earshot".At least to an area that wouldn't be truly disruptive to ANY locals.I haven't had a complaint yet.Doesn't matter how much or how little $ they have or how expensive the subdivision is.If you live in a highly populated area, someone will be on your case if you're too loud.Put yourself in their shoes. I know I wouldn't want to have family BBQ's/get togethers disrupted by noise and dust etc.Even at home alone. Key is to have some respect for those around you and its likely you won't ruffle any feathers.
As far as riding on tracks in highly populated areas, same goes.Find a riding place where you won't be disruptive.

ITs a free country (for know), If you own the land, I feel you should ride when you want. Sorry neighbors, If you dont like it, move... Kinda a funny story. My buddy bought a Banshee and has like 10 acres of land that he rides on, with miles of dirt roads around his house. Anyway,, his neighbors were complaing that he was riding on his own land and the roads around him, but not real excessive mind you. But the neighbors then start calling the cops on him for riding on the roads and that really set him off. So what does he go do, He went and had it licenced for street use. (in Wyoming all you need is a headlight, taillight, and horn to be legal) Now he rides wherever he wants LEGALLY. His neighbors, Im sure, wish they would have never complained in the first place, as he likes to rip it right in front of their house, just to tick 'em off. Fight fire with fire...

It kinda figures that it would take a Polaris owner to set you guys straight. I am assuming that since he lives next to a subdivision that this person lives within city limits. If he lives within city limits it has nothing to do with what he is doing, if he is disturbing the peace with loud anything then he is in the wrong. I want to ride as much as the next guy but if you have to be considerate of your neighbors. For the people who are saying that if he is on his own land he should be able to do what he wants, thats just ignorant. Yea, we live in the land of the free and that has to be preserved but all of the very biased opinions so far say nothing about the rights of the people who live in this subdivision to live in a peacefull neighborhood.
P.S. The fact that I am a Polaris owner has nothing to do with this reply. To attack me for this would serve no purpose. This guy will hurt the rights of all ATV riders not just the red riders. I am also a honda fan and would love to wom a 400ex. HAPPY TRAILS!!!

I have retired couples on all 3 sides of my house. They don't care for the noise or dust, and I try to be considerate. It kind of boils down to this to me.....They don't like noise or dust, and I don't like seeing old people without teeth. We're even..LOL

My wife and had a house built in one of those high-end subdivisions. Its a beautiful spot but there are a lot of snobs around. Mostly 35-40 year old yuppies that think they are the center of the known universe. My street is still under construction so i sometimes take the Xplorer for a ride...nice and slowly. I don't take the Scrambler out because of the noise. The snobs would not like that. My Xplorer is less noisy than a lot of the cars and trucks around here but the law is severe. A feww hundred $$'s for riding on the street. 100$ for no helmet or no lights! 350$ for no plate...it goes on and on.
Here in Quebec we have had a lot of idiots that got killed or killed there kids...that's why there are so many laws. Saw a guy last winter on his quad with his wife, 3 very young kids,no helmets and 3 other ten year olds on sleds being pulled by the quad!

Be respectfull to your neighbors...and they won't call the cops...everytime!!!

We had a problem with some oil company pumpers a couple years ago. My friends and I had made a trail through my grandparents woods from my house to the friends house. Part ofthe trail was riding on the oil road on my granparents land. The pumper called the cops and they came and parked on the oil road to wait for us. Well I came riding by them one day and they turned on their sirens like it was something illegal. They saw that I was the grandson of the people who OWN the land and apologized, said they were looking for some delinquents who were tearing up the oil road and didnt have permission on the land. I quickly informed them that all the so called delinquents were my friends and I and that we did NO damage to teh lease road. I walked them over to a big rut supposedly caused by out quads and pointed out the big TRUCK tracks in it and they happened to notice the oil running through it as well. Well that oil just happned to run through the ruts into the creek causing water pollution. Well, the end story was the oil company was fined for polluting and the cops told them next time they wanted to accuse people of doing something wrong to make sure they were the ones in teh right.
I understand that we should be courteous of our neighbors but my grandparents sure didnt mind and I dont ride my loud quad at night when teh neighborhood's asleep. We must also remember that there will always be some ******* out tere wanting to stop us from riding but its likely they are not in the right all the time either. So all it takes is a little fighting back to turn the tides.

Well... I've had enough experiences with cops.

(1) I was on a gravel road at Pigscah Nat'l Forest some 10 years ago and some **** rent-a-tree-kissing-cop comes up to me and pulls me over in front of my pop and kicks me out of the Nat'l Forest area (he made sure that we were out of the area). What a d@#!a$$.

(2) I've been pulled over by another ****y rent-a-cop while I was with a friend at night. We were PHYSICALLY OFF THE ROAD and riding along the road to one of the local trails!!! That rent-a-****y-cop still pulls us over and gave us a bunch of bs. We nearly were thrown in jail for that crap (I give thanks to my friend for saving my a$$ - I was so pissed off). Gotta be careful with those rent-a-cops who have attitude; they could f#!k you over.

(3) I have been pulled over 1-2 times before, but just only got warnings for NOT RIDING ON THE ROAD. There is alot of bs with the law when it comes to riding 2 feet away from the road. What bs is that for pulling me over for not riding on the road!?!?!?!? Those local cops need to know what a road is.

ROAD N. (road) 1. The surface that is paved or unpaved and cars go on it. 2. Not a road when it is two feet from paved surface - its called dirt.
