I drove the tundra.. Loved it, by far the best 1/2 ton out. They are weeks away from makein a full size SUV on the same frame! But i wanst lookin for a full size otherwise id pick one up. I like the narrow light sporty tocoma. that way i can go up brushy hunting roads and still not hit the paint. I also love the supercharger at full boost sideways at 50, by far the coolest compact truck..or maybe a huge quad with a/c and heat?

I wouldn't go as far as saying the best 1/2 ton out there. The new Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra have been winning the recent truck comparisons, and even beat out the Tundra.

Yea, but your 69 IH rides like a dump truck and gets 5 mpg.

Actually it gets 8 mpg. Even with a 6.3 to 1 1st gear and 4:10s in the pumpkins. It's also got a PTO should I need to run a manure spreader
It should ride like a dump truck. It's built like one. Same engine & tranny you find in old dump trucks, school buses etc.

Ok JRM, I've been looking around at different truck forums and websites with owners ratings of new trucks. I've seen one owner with a new Tundra that hooked on to a tractor to pull him out of a mudhole and he twisted his frame on his truck. He says he's done it hundreds of times with the American trucks. He told everyone that they are fine for light duty use, but lookout if you have to work them hard. But I do agree that they are reliable, but tough and reliable are different. I've also seen many problems with the Fords, and also the Dodge Rams. So it looks like they all have problems. Numerous people bought '99 Dodge Rams and the paint was flaking off. All I can say is: nobody is perfect, and nothing made is perfect.

I agree with you on that one Rooster, along with Andrew (my dad is a vet also), they are not tough trucks..just reliable. I smashed the bed into the cab of my 90' toyota while loading my XR. But my friends Ford ranger sux just as bad! If I was in the market for a real truck it would defently be a 00' F350 quad cab 4x4 with the stroke! all my friends have them, but they just dont off road like a toy.

JRM,
Yeah those new Fords with solid axles below leaf springs... HOW REFRESHING! Been awhile since we've seen that. They got the IH motor, it's a shame the rest of the truck can't live up to the motors rep though
Better than a foreign one though.

IH, Everything else is just a car.

Yeah, those phoney F250 frount axles used between 80' and 98' were a pain, You could go measure a new one off any ford lot and it would be at least a 1/8th inch off from side to side! I had a 87' with the 460 and a 92'7.3 non turbo F250 4x4 and both wore the bushings out on them.
