400ex/Banshee acceleration??
#1
I know that the banshee and the 400ex both have top speeds relatively close, but how much faster the banshee accelerate? About how fast does the banshee and 400ex do 0-60?I am also placing this same question in the yamaha section to see how diferent people reply. I would appreciate any replys.

In a recent ATV Sport magazine, they ran some timed runs with both these quads. The 400EX had a pipe, and the Banshee was stock.
They were very close from 0 - 30 mph, but the graph for the 400 stopeed before they reached 60 mph. I can assume that the 400EX just reached 60 mph or so. It's not really geared for much over 60 (but I'm sure somebody here with their uncles radar gun will claim that it can do 1,000 mph).
Regardless, the only info I have seen in print is from ATV Sport, and if you look at the graphs and numbers, it's apparent that the Banshee runs away from the 400EX after 30 mph. It better. The Banshee has a 10 hp advantage.

I have clocked a 400ex at 1,000 miles per hour with my useles radar gun! Seriously, the banshee had 38hp the 400ex has 28hp, that should give you an idea of acceleration advantage of the banshee. Keep in mind the 400ex is quite a bit lighter though. The top speed IS fairly close...around 70mph stock. The 400ex was not more than 8 or 5 mph slower.

The banshee will brutely kill the 400EX on top speed and 0-60.. the 400 may jump ahead for the first 10 feet due to its torque. top speed of the 400ex is 64 and the banshee is 72MPH. copyed out of the jan 2000 4 wheel atv action mag-anyone who thinks otherwise is crazy, im a honda fan but that banshee is one cool toy

Dirtwheels this...4 wheel atv action that.... quite listening to those lyers and go buy a banshee and a 400ex and test them yourself. trust me, you will find the results shocking. the mags only say what the manufacturers want them to anyway. and by my opinion, the banshee is way overrated. those banshee fans just can't admit that their king status has been replaced by something else (DS650). it all depends on the driver anyhow. it can only go as fast as you make it.

that is true, i have never ridden or owned a stock banshee. my 87' was blueprinted/balenced with pipe&reeds, ext swingarm and a few other things. I herd that stock ones are quite gutlesss. My XR600 couldnt even touch my old banshee
unless we we racein abouve 70MPH, the XR can break 100 right out of the box

We did race a 400ex vs a Banshee on dry pavement in a large parking lot 100yds then shutdown. We were very surprised how little the Banshee won by, but it did win. I have a question about top speed. If my 2000 400ex was air shipped instead of by boat or by semi, did it have a top speed of over 600mph? At that point, it smoked the Banshee in acceleration and top speed, unless there was a Banshee shipped in a crate next to it. I guess it would be a tie then.

Sheesh.. this question is thrown around in so many ways - it cracks me up. I have a '99 400 which ive had for less thna 6 months. the first trip was out to Glamis (CA) near the sand highway - about 30 miles of sandy straight-aways... I dragged it stock with 4 other bikes 2 stock banshees, 1 tricked out Banshee and a polaris 500 i think - oh and a warrior (tricked) for giggles. Did a straight run about 1 mile and stopped - did it the other way... about 10 times - 4-5 times beat the stock banshees - looked like i would catch up slightly after 4th gear. - guys in the Banshee were even amazed - and after the 5th or so time, they just didnt want to do it anymore - probably ashamed at the very weak way it did beat the 400.....when it did beat it.
Tricked banshee - after 4th no way - but he never beat me with more than 4-8 quad lengths.. (in a mile run!).. I too was surprised just how close the Thumper was to the Banshees' - I know Yamaha Banshee is fast - but like the other guy said - its not that fast. Considering the Banshee is a dual 350-2STROKE!!! The Warrior, forget it !
Now its different, i have a pipe, jet kit, and new Holeshots... I would guess that it may do this better now.....

yeah, everybody thought i was crazy for saying i beat a banshee with my stock 400ex but now someone else has done it also. the 400ex feels much slower than the banshee but when you line em up. it will actually beat it in stock trim. i don't care how many people think opposite i know by first hand experience that my 400ex beat a banshee. thats my story and i'm stickin to it.
