honda 450es battery discharge
#1
I have a '99 Foreman 450es, and have been experiencing the "battery discharge" problem since early October. The thing is a BEAST to pull start in -30C weather up here in Winterpeg, Manitoba, and charging the battery no longer works as a temporary solution.
I've contacted my dealer twice, and have been told that I'm #9 on a list of many waiting for parts to arrive.
I paid a premium for this machine over others in it's class because of Honda's reputation for reliability and customer service - I'm beginning to question this now. If Honda is aware of the problem and has issued recall notices, why can they not supply their dealers with parts to fix the machines?
? Does anyone know the specifics of what the change is / what parts are required?
? Has anyone contacted Honda about this problem, what contact did they use?

They replace one of the "harnes connections" I'm not sure really what its called, its right below the handle bars down in front of the gas tank, on my 99' I never had any problems but with the recall that was issued I went ahead and had it done. It only took the shop about 10min to replace. From what I've heard from people like you who have problems that this does indeed fix it. Hopefully your dealer pulls there head out and gets the part in ( I can only image having to pull start it ) good luck!

It's called a Current Control Kit. It is mounted in the front of the machine, look for two frame rails running diagonally from the bottom of the machine up to the gas tank/handlebar area. It is right behind the front (drivers side as if it were a car, an American car!) tire. It is just a little box mounted to the frame rail and only takes less than 15 minutes to replace. It's just plugin and mount, that's all there is to it.

Like they say it's neither had to get at or to change. I have found though if you do alot of winching or run with lights on at the end of your run the charging system is not the greatest. I usally throw it on the trickel charger the night before you will find everthing seems to work better.
